Annual Events

Potlatch

Potlatch is a small, discussion-oriented, literary SF convention closely connected to Clarion West. It changes location between Seattle, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Portland following an irregular plan of rotation. Potlatch features a single track of literary programming, a fine bookdealers' room, Taste of Clarion West writers workshops, and the Clarion West scholarship fund auction. The auction has been a major source of funds for Clarion West scholarships since 1992, raising over $50,000 for the scholarship fund; an additional $10,000 for our general operating expenses has been provided by Potlatch members.

Potlatch 22 will be held February 1 - 3, 2013, in Redmond, Washington, concurrently with Foolscap 15. A single membership gives you access to both conventions.

Summer Reading Series

Each week during the workshop session, we present one of our six current instructors reading their best new work: selections from recently published books, unpublished stories, or novels-in-progress. The featured reader also answers questions about writing, teaching, editing, and other topics.

In 2013, we'll offer evenings with: Elizabeth Hand on June 25, Neil Gaiman on July 2, Joe Hill on July 9, Justina Robson on July 16, Ellen Datlow on July 23, and Samuel R. Delany on July 30. We'll post times, locations, and other information soon.

Write-a-thon

Every summer during the Workshop, alumni, instructors, and friends of Clarion West can participate in our Write-a-thon and help us raise money. Participants collect donations to Clarion West for achieving their personal writing goals during the six weeks of the Write-a-thon.  Each year our Write-a-thon has grown more and more successful, both in terms of words written and money raised.

Our 2013 Write-a-thon begins on Saturday, June 23, so you'll want to sign up in May or the first two weeks of June. More soon.
