Help Promising New Writers Develop Their Gift
Clarion West is an organization run primarily by volunteers, for volunteers. To sign up to help us, visit our contact page.
The writers who attend the workshop give up six weeks of their lives, taking time off from work and family (sometimes even quitting their jobs) in order to concentrate on their writing. And they pay for the privilege. Fortunately, there is some financial assistance available, thanks to the Susan Petrey Fund, the Octavia E. Butler Memorial Scholarship, ReadAssist, the Gordon R. Dickson Memorial Scholarship, the Donald and Elsie Wolheim Scholarship (for New York residents), and our own full and partial scholarships, funded by our charity auctions.
But tuition generates only half the money we need to run the workshop each year. Much of the rest of it is made up through the generosity of people who donate to Clarion West, via PayPal or by mailing us a check. Clarion West is a nonprofit organization, and donations are tax-deductible.
Donations of any size are gratefully accepted. Our PayPal link and mailing address are here.
What do we do with the money? We use it to run the organization, keep the tuition as low as possible, and supplement the scholarship fund for students who would not otherwise be able to attend. Our two administrators each receive a modest part-time salary, and there are three other paid part-time positions. The rest of Clarion West’s expenses include rent, photocopying, postage, etc.—normal and unavoidable costs of operation. Our staff, board, and volunteers have the workshop’s best interest at heart, and constantly seek to minimize our expenses.
Clarion West is a nonprofit educational organization under Section 501©(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (Federal EIN 91-1352168).
Thank you for considering Clarion West in your charitable giving.
